National Geographic

One picture is worth a thousand words

The 'National Geographic Fotowedstrijd' is an annually returning platform for enthusiastic amateur photographers. National Geographic desires for people to spread inspiration and versatility on our planet through new perspectives. Their wish was to establish a platform that inspires and invites talent to participate and vote.

In a nutshell

Participants are able to submit their photos into three different categories: animal, landscape and people. The contest has three phases: submission, voting and presentation. The professional jury makes a selection of fifteen photos from all entries per category. After that, the public can vote on the jury their selection via the platform. The most astonishing picture is awarded with a spread in the National Geographic magazine.

Get carried away in the world of...

On the category page, the visitor is taken into the world of animals, landscapes, and people by animations, screen-filling images, and inspiring videos. By pressing the 'Meedoen' button the participants will be going through a multiple step funnel, allowing them to submit their pieces quickly.

A couple of years later

Because we built the design mainly based on images at the end of 2017, National Geographic can still use this design years later. The thousands of submissions and votes over these years confirm that they are far from tired of the current platform.
